Umbrella Frock for 2 year old baby | Free Umbrella Frock Pattern Drafting Tutorial Step by Step Guide
Umbrella Frock Cutting & Stitching
Here we are going to make an umbrella frock with half upper body and bottom umbrella flare.
Front & Back Body Drafting & Cutting:
For Upper Body Measurements and Cutting you refer to the blog Baby Frock, we are going to use the same measurements as Baby Frock for 2 years old baby.
Cloth Requirement for Umbrella Bottom:
So we will take the square fabric measuring 34 x 34 inches
Fold the fabric in 4 layers of 17x17 inches as shown
Bottom Umbrella flare Measurements:
The length of the bottom flare would be 12 inches.
Waist = 24 inches
1/4 waist = 6 inches
Mark 6 inches on the left top of the fabric, joining both the sides as shown :
AB = BC = CD = DA = 17 Inches
1-B = 12 (final length of Bottom Flare) + 0.5 (for top seam allowance) + 0.25 inches (Bottom Seam allowance)
1-B = 12.75 inches
Bottom Umbrella Flare Cutting:
Now put the measuring Tape on Point A and Start marking on 17inches in a circular shape to cut the umbrella pattern as shown.
Cutting Line :
0-1-B-D
You will get the Bottom flare like a circle
Sewing Method:
We will start sewing the body part first, you can refer to the Baby frock sewing Method for the Upper body part.
After cutting we will get 2 pieces for an upper-body part, one for the front and one for the back.
The backside of the body needs to be cut in the center for the button placket.
Sew the facing strips to Neckline and armholes to secure the edges, by double folding them at 0.25 inches.
Stitch the sides (on the wrong side) with a 1-inch seam allowance.
Now make 2 inches cut in the Bottom Flare for the Button Placket to be attached, as shown.
Secure the bottom edges by double folding with 0.1 inches each or do the pico stitch.
Sew the bottom flare to the body part holding the Right sides together (Start sewing from the Bitton Placket Opening) as shown.
Attach the button placket on the backside of the Umbrella Frock. Learn How to Cut & attach a button placket in Blog Baby Frock.
Attach the button to the placket or the zipper. Beautify the frock with patches, lace or Embroidery, etc.
Now the umbrella frock for a 2-year-Old baby is ready to wear!
