Frill Frock cutting and stitching
Frill frock is in trend for so many years, it's an evergreen pattern for kids. Nowadays long frill frock is in fashion for women also.
For the bottom flare we will first cut the base flare and then the frills, which are going to be attached to the base flare. We will divide the bottom flare size into 3 equal sizes (as we are going to make 3 frills' frock) plus the seam allowance. So let's start making the frill frock for the 2-year-old baby.
Cloth Requirement:
Fold the fabric in 4 layers measuring 6 x 10 inchesBottom flare pattern making (Base)
0-1 = length of bottom flare i.e. 12
0-2 = same as waist = 6
1-3 = waist + 4 inches = 6 + 4 = 10 inches
Join 2-3
2-4 = 0-1
Join 1-4 in curve shape as shown.
1-3 = waist + 4 inches = 6 + 4 = 10 inches
Join 2-3
2-4 = 0-1
Join 1-4 in curve shape as shown.
1 inch for side cutting
1 inch for the bottom
Here for the length of 12 inches, we will mark on 4 inches as shown.
Cutting line:

Divide the base length of the bottom flare into 3 equal parts and mark on them.Here for the length of 12 inches, we will mark on 4 inches as shown.
Bottom frills pattern drafting (front & back):
1st frill - 6 x 25 inches
2nd frill - 6 x 35 inches
3rd frill - 6 x 45 inches
2nd frill - 6 x 35 inches
3rd frill - 6 x 45 inches
Cutting Line:
0-1-2-3
4-5-6-7
8-9-10-11
Backside Cutting for Button Placket:
Referring to the Baby Frock Cutting & Sewing (of an upper-body part) you have 2 pieces of Body Parts (Front & Back).
Cut the backside in the center.
How to Cut Facing strip for Neckline and Armhole:
Now we will cut the Facing Strips for the Neckline and Armhole.
Separate the front and back sides of the Body.
For the Back Neckline facing strip, we require the fabric folded, 1 inch bigger than the width and the height of the neckline as shown.
Place the Fabric under Back Neckline and cut 1 Inch facing strip as shown.
How to Cut Button Placket:
Note: Cut the Button Placket After Sewing Armhole, Neckline Strips also after joining the Bottom flare.
Cut the 1-inch width straight strip for the Button placket,
size would be =
Length of backside opening + 2-inch cut in a bottom flare + 0.1 inches for securing the end of the strip.
Now double fold the base flare's bottom at 1-inch seam allowance.
Double fold the bottom of the frills with a seam allowance of 0.1 inches each. Repeat the same for all 3 frills.
Now sew long stitches on the top of the 1st frill. And make the gathering equal to the size of the waist.
Now make the gathering of the 2nd frill and adjust the width to the base flare marking for the 2nd frill.
Same for the 3rd frill.
Sew the frills on the marking.
Now sew long stitches on the top of the 1st frill. And make the gathering equal to the size of the waist.
Now make the gathering of the 2nd frill and adjust the width to the base flare marking for the 2nd frill.
Same for the 3rd frill.
Sew the frills on the marking.
Now sew the side of the bottom flare with a 1-inch seam allowance leaving 2 inches on top for the button placket.
Now sew the facing strip of the Neckline and Armhole with a 0.1-inch seam allowance.
Double fold the strip to the wrong side and sew from the Right side.
Fold the body part to the wrong side and sew the sides with a 1-inch seam allowance.
Now attach the bottom flare to the top body part start attaching from the backside opening of the button placket.
Now Refer How to cut the Button Placket above. Sew the button placket strip on the backside opening, with a 0.1-inch seam allowance.
Now double fold the strip to the wrong side and sew from the front side.
Pull the strip to the wrong side and attach buttons or chains to close the opening.
Now our Frill Frock for 2-year-old baby is ready to wear!
