Salwar Kameez Sewing Pattern 2021


Salwar kameez is traditional wear, worn by women. Salwar kameez is also called as Shalwar Kameez. The salwar is a pattern worn instead of pants and kameez is worn in place of a shirt, kurta top, or tunic. Women of the new age wear designer salwar suits, in different salwar suit patterns.
Kameez is usually paired with salwar, but it is also paired with Patiala salwar, dhoti shalwar, chudidar pajama, pant, parallel pant, or plazzo, etc. Salwar kameez is especially worn by Muslim women in India, Pakistan, and other Muslim countries.

Today we are going to learn Drafting, Cutting, and Sewing of Kameez Pattern in detail. Once you thoroughly know the Cutting and Stitching you can design numerous patterns and you would be an Expert Designer.

Let's start Kameez Sewing Pattern.

Cloth Required for Kameez:

2 Meters approximately

So we need to fold the fabric into 4 layers widthwise (1/4 Hip + Seam allowance), then start marking for the Front and Backside Pattern.

Kameez Measurements for Front and Back:



0-1 = Full length
0-2 = 1/8 chest + 2.5 inches or as Desired
2-4 = 1/4 chest + 1.5 inches
0-3 = waist length + 0.5 inches or 2-3 = 7 inches
3-5 = 2-4 - 0.5 inch
Join 4-5
0-6 = 1/2 shoulder
0-7 = 2.5 inches or as Desired
0-8 = 1.5 inches or 2 inches
6-9 = 0.5 inches
Join 7-9
Join 9-4 in Armhole shape
3-10 = 7 inches
10-11 = 1/4 Hip +1.5 inches or 2 inches
Join 5-11
1-12 = 10-11
Join 11-12

Cutting Line :

8-7-9-4-5-11-12-1


Seam Allowance :

0.25 inch for neckline & armhole
0.5 inch for Shoulder
1 inch for sides & bottom

now you will get two pieces, one for the front and one for the Back.
Take the one-piece for the front side Drafting.

Front Side Drafting :

0-13 = 5 inches or as Desired
Join 13-7 in Neckline Shape
15 = 1/2 9-14
15-16 = 0.5 inch
Join 9-15-4 in Front Armhole Shape



Cutting Line :

Cut the Neckline and Armhole for Front Side.

9-15-4


Sleeves Drafting :

Fold the fabric In 4 layers, for the sleeves Length (Full length + 2 inches) x width (1/8 chest + 3.5 inches).



0-1 = sleeve length + 2 inches
0-2 = 1/8 chest + 0.5 inches
1-3 = bottom of sleeves + 1 inches
2-4 = 1/8 chest + 3.5 inches
Join 0-4 in sleeves shape
or
Mark mid point of 0-4 at a
Mark point b in middle of 0-a, mark 0.5 inch upward
Similarly mark c as mid point of a-4 and go downward 0.5 inch
Join 0-b'-a-c'-4 in sleeve shape

Join 3-4 in slightly curved or you can opt out, joining with straight line.


Cutting Line :

0-4-3-1

Seam allowance:

Seam allowance is included in the drafting, while sewing you can use the below given seam allowance.

For top 0.25 inches
Sides 1 inches
Bottom 1 inch for double folding


Front Side Sleeves Cutting:

Open the sleeves, (Note : place wrong side of one sleeve on the Right side of another sleeve) and cut one side of the sleeves slightly deeper, as shown in the figure.



Sewing Method :

Join the shoulders with a 0.5-inch seam allowance.
Fold the edges of the facing strip at 0.2-inch seam allowance.
Sew the facing strip to the Neckline at 0.2-inch seam allowance (holding Right sides together).
Do the hemstitch to hold the facing strip at the wrong side later, once you finish stitching the kameez.
Mark the center of the sleeve and pin at the joint of the shoulders as shown below in the figure.
Sew the sleeves to the armhole at 0.2-inch seam allowance one by one.
Double fold the bottom of the sleeves at 0.25-inch seam allowance.
Turn the kameez to the wrong side, placing the front and backside on each other properly, and pin them.
Mark both the sides at 1-inch seam allowance, from sleeves to the hip.
Sew both the sides on the marking holding the Right sides together.
Now double-fold cloth from hip to bottom separately (front and back) for both sides of the kameez as shown in the figure.
Now double fold the bottom of the kameez (Front and Backside).
Now our Kameez is ready to wear!!
